BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist
EMDR UK Accredited Therapist
Mindfulness Teacher, Trainer & Supervisor

Every therapist’s approach is a little different.

I draw on skills and knowledge from my experience working in the field of mental health for over 35 years. I initially trained as an Occupational Therapist and then later in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My clinical approach is also informed by my long-standing mindfulness practice and my experience of working with my own childhood and early adulthood adversity.

I see this work as a partnership, with both client and therapist bringing knowledge and wisdom, as we work together to help alleviate the client’s emotional difficulties. My goal is to support clients in living as meaningful a life as possible despite the inherent challenges encountered in our daily lives.

Services

Clinical Services

Psychological therapy focuses on helping you to understand yourself better through exploring emotions, thoughts, behaviours and the mind-body connection. I encourage bringing a non-judging curiosity to experience as we identify processes that could be contributing to emotional distress.

Alongside learning and building skills, and making changes in your life, therapy also encourages a sense of being with yourself and things as they are, cultivating attitudes of non-striving and acceptance.

I can help with: stress, low mood and depression, anxiety, the impact of trauma including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger, grief, and persisting physical symptoms (either those associated with a diagnosis such as diabetes or heart disease, or what are sometimes referred to as functional disorders such as Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

What to Expect

If you would like an initial discussion, please use the 'Contact Me' form below and we can arrange a free 30-minute telephone consultation. This is an opportunity for me to gather some brief details about your current difficulties, discuss terms and conditions, and decide together whether I am the right therapist for you.

If you decide to proceed with therapy, prior to the first therapy session, I will ask you to confirm your agreement with the therapy contract, and gather some initial contact information such as your full name, date of birth, address, GP details and next of kin.

CBT is a short-term therapy, generally between 6 and 20 sessions. At the first session, we will begin to explore your emotional difficulties and discuss your therapy goals. If you have experienced traumatic events, we will consider if EMDR may be a helpful therapeutic approach.

We will also discuss and agree on things you can do between sessions to support you in reaching your therapy goals.

It can be helpful to plan for an initial 3 to 6 sessions then review, and book further therapy in blocks of 2 to 6 sessions as needed.

Each 1-hour session is £75.00 and sessions are generally weekly.

In-Person

Therapy takes place in a comfortable and

relaxed dedicated therapy space in a village on the Somerset/Wiltshire border, near Westbury.

Online

Therapy Sessions are also available via online video.

This choice offers more flexibility such as a wider range of appointment options (days and times) and you can engage with therapy from the comfort of your own home. For effective online therapy, you need a private, uninterrupted space, a stable internet connection, and preferably access to a computer, tablet or laptop rather than using your mobile phone.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness

As well as mindfulness informing my therapeutic approach, I also offer mindfulness-based teaching. I have had my own mindfulness practice since 1997. After completing an 8-week course in 2007, I embarked on a journey of teacher training and personal study, and began teaching Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in the NHS in 2010 to staff and clients.

I am registered with the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA) as a mindfulness teacher, validating that I meet the Good Practice Guidelines for mindfulness-based teachers.

If you are interested in specifically exploring a mindfulness-based approach, I can guide you through an 8-week course, either online or in person, which involves 8, 1- hour sessions plus a commitment to spending about an hour a day within your own daily life engaging in informal and formal practices It is also possible to support you through a briefer 4- week course if this suits your lifestyle better. Please get in touch if you would like further information about the mindfulness-based courses and we can arrange for a 30-minute, no obligation conversation to help you decide if it’s right for you.

The cost of the 8-week course is £500 and the 4-week course is £250.

I don’t currently offer group courses for individual members of the public, but it is something I would like to offer in the future so please contact me for more information.

I can facilitate a programme for your group or organisation.

I have been a member of the core training team for the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice (CMRP), Bangor University since 2013, teaching on their Masters in Mindfulness programme. If you are interested in the Masters in Mindfulness, here is the link to Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice.

Since 2018 the non-academic element of this mindfulness-based training has been delivered through the Mindfulness Network and I continue to facilitate a range of teacher training as well as mindfulness-based supervision through the Mindfulness Network.
